Yes, it is. In the UK, if your vehicle is more than three years old it legally requires an MOT each year. The MOT checks all key safety and environmental aspects of your vehicle, such as brakes, lights, tyres and emissions. If you don’t have a valid MOT certificate, you are not legally allowed to drive on UK roads – and your insurance may be invalid.
Yes, you can drive to a pre-booked MOT test if your previous MOT has expired. If your vehicle fails and is deemed dangerous, however, you cannot then legally drive it again until repairs are made. The most sensible thing to do is always book your MOT before the current one expires.
